Prepare Smart, Pack Light & Focus on Your Worship
Hajj is one of the most important spiritual journeys in a Muslim's life. Proper preparation can make your journey more comfortable and help you focus on your worship.
You do not need to carry everything from home. Many essential goods and services are readily available in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, pilgrims are encouraged to pack light and focus on personal essentials.
Essential Hajj Packing Checklist
1. Important Documents
Keep your passport, Hajj permit, visa-related documents, health documents, travel information and emergency contacts safely in a waterproof document pouch.
2. Ihram
Male pilgrims should carry at least two Ihram sets, an Ihram belt and comfortable sandals. Having an extra Ihram can be useful during the journey.
3. Comfortable Clothing
Pack lightweight, breathable and comfortable clothing suitable for the duration of your stay.
4. Comfortable Footwear
Walking is an important part of the Hajj journey. Choose comfortable walking shoes or sandals that you have already used and know are comfortable.
5. Medicines & Health Documents
Carry sufficient prescribed medicines, your prescription and relevant medical reports. Keep essential medicines easily accessible during travel. WHO recommends carrying sufficient medical supplies and important health documents when travelling.
6. Toiletries
Pack essential personal-care items such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, tissues, wet wipes, towel and suitable sunscreen.
7. Electronics
A smartphone, charger, power bank and travel adapter can be useful throughout your journey.
8. Money & Cards
Carry sufficient Saudi Riyal along with your bank cards. Keep your money and important documents secure.
9. Sun & Heat Protection
Sunscreen, sunglasses, a parasol/umbrella and lightweight clothing can help you stay comfortable in hot conditions. Saudi's Ihram guidance lists several commonly used items, including sandals, glasses, watches, belts/pouches and parasols, among things that are not prohibited in Ihram.
